A call came in to Detective Agency Leicester from the owner of a gym who wanted to get to the bottom of a theft problem in the mixed locker room. He had only just taken over ownership of the gym and was horrified to find a small number of thefts being reported from the lockers and in particular the theft of a man’s very expensive Breitling watch from the locker of a very long standing member of the gym. Rumours were surfacing and he wondered if we could help solve the problem before it got out of hand.
We said we could instigate surveillance in the form of two undercover operatives using state of the art pinhole cameras. They would pose as new members and make covert enquiries of other members in the locker room. Our operatives set to work the following week. Our client instructed us to observe for the period of seven days so as to observe and record all or any suspicious behaviour during the whole period. Our operatives became suspicious of one particular male member who seemed to be spending a lot of time in the locker room chatting to various clients in between his training sessions. A hidden camera was placed in a covert position in the locker room to try and catch this particular member out.
When our report was submitted to the client he was astonished to find that the man who had reported his Breitling watch missing was indeed the guilty party. He had been covertly filmed removing small items from lockers. When confronted he admitted that he was in financial trouble and wanted to make an insurance claim on his watch. To make it look like a genuine theft he decided to steal other items to camouflage his own theft.
